We also always try to be honest about what we are doing. Although much of the material in our furniture is solid wood, we don’t hide the fact that we sometimes use veneers, both on plywood and on MDF as appropriate. They don’t expand and shrink with the changes of seasons and are therefore particularly suitable for drawer bottoms and other panels.

However there are some definite lines in the Sable Island sand; we never use "wood effect" veneers which are photos pretending to be real wood, and we don’t "distress" our furniture in order to make it look artificially old. Our furniture will grow old gracefully without anyone’s help and after all, you would never think of distressing your new BMW.

Sometimes people ask us if our furniture is hand made. Well, by and large it is. Obviously we use power tools for cutting and shaping the wood but the assembling and finishing work is all done by hand, one piece at a time.
