Born in 1963, John Kelly grew up in Huntingdon, West Virginia. He is a licensed
architect who has been designing and producing hand crafted furniture and accessories
since 1987 when he founded John Kelly Furniture & Accessories, based in New York.
John’s early furniture designs were influenced by the arts and crafts movement in
America, the Bauhaus movement in Europe, and various modern architects. In particular
he looked to designers like Frank Lloyd Wright, Charles Eames, Gustav Stickley,
Greene & Greene, and Le Corbusier for inspiration.
His most recent project has been a collaboration with the renowned Japanese craftsman
Chuzo Tozawa on the design of a very limited edition contemporary dining group,
available only as a set including a dining table, 6 similar but distinctive
dining chairs and a sideboard. The total production will be limited to 10 sets priced
at $100,000 per set.
For Sable Island John has designed the J1 Series, the Meridian Collection and the Hudson Collection.
